50 Walks

For a while now I have wanted a photography project to run long-term with a clear structure and an, albeit currently undefined, end date. It has taken me two years to find something that I felt I could actually follow and document consistently. As part of a general fitness regime I am enjoying walking, which is something that I have not been able to say for a good few years. This page tracks my progress through 50 walks in Kent using this the AA Guide listed at the bottom of this page.

The first walk was completed on 19/04/2009 (Number 31 in the book). It will be interesting to see how long to takes to complete the full fifty, but all shall be blogged on this site. I have set no time limit for the completion of this project, since I don’t plan to do any of these walks in the pouring rain. This is, most definitely, a fair-weather project and the British climate is likely to wreak a certain amount of havoc on a large number of weekends. Each walk, once completed, will be linked to the blog entry covering it. There is no set agenda for the photos recorded on each walk, nor a set number. I shall add photos for anything I find interesting.

For this project I am following the AA’s 50 Walks in Kent Guide book. Please click below to purchase from Amazon UK. It was published by the AA in February 2009 and forms part of a series they offer covering the whole of the UK. For the most part the book is very easy to follow and contains lots of useful information. There is a lack of consistency through the whole book – with some walks not having maps listed, nor numbered steps included. It would be handy if there was a mileage/distance count at each stage, as, personally speaking, I like to know how far left I have – it spurs me on! These things aside, the book is well worth a browse.
