The new Passion Flower is doing nicely.
My first poppy of 2013 is out! Lots more to come by the looks of it though.
One of my favourite insects on one of my favourite flowers. Nuff said.
The common name in English, “marigold”, is derived from “Mary’s Gold”, a name once exclusively applied to Calendula. In Nepal it is called ‘शयपत्री’ which means hundred leafed flower, referring to its many florets per head. They look mighty fine with a Hoverfly perched on top.
Not much to say other than gorge.
Begonia is a genus in the flowering plant family Begoniaceae and is a perennial. The only other members of the family Begoniaceae are Hillebrandia, a genus with a single species in the Hawaiian Islands, and the genus Symbegonia which more recently was included in Begonia. “Begonia” is the common name as well as the generic name for all members of the genus.
The genus name, coined by Charles Plumier, a French patron of botany, honours Michel Bégon, a former governor of the French colony of Haiti.
